In July, there were a few sunflowers blooming at the Raupp farm. Normally they plant a huge field of them, but this year they rotated their crops, so only sunflowers that grew were from seeds left over from last year along the edge of the field.
Any flowers are beautiful, and I wanted to depict these honestly for what they were. I took particular care to capture the character of their posture, the way each flower leaned and reached toward the light.
This is the original painting, an oil on canvas measuring 12 × 16" and will come framed.
